THE BURDEKIN MEDAL One of the earliest benefactors to the College was Mr Sydney Burdekin, who was present at the first annual distribution of prizes in December, 1891, and gave two gold medals, one for orcharding and the other management of stock. The following year, when the first diplomas were awarded, Mr Burdekin gave a silver medal to each winner of a diploma in agriculture, and continued the gift each year till the time of his death in 1898. This gift was perpetuated by Mrs Sydney Burdekin till her death in 1913, and afterwards by her daughters up till the year 1919. In referring to the death of Mrs Burdekin, Principal HW Potts said: To her and her public-spirited husband the College owes a lasting debt of gratitude. (Dart RN.
