AS-695 Student Cards - Winter Schools for Farmers (Short Courses) [Hawkesbury Agricultural College (HAC)]
from 1906 through to at least the 1960's. However, student cards appear to have survived only for the period 1906-1923.
These cards contain less information than the general series of student cards. They will generally contain the following:
- Surname
- Initials/Firstname
- Age
- Religion
- Name of Parent or Guardian
- Occupation of Parent or Guardian
- Address (usually just the town but sometimes includes full address or name of property)
- Date of Entrance
- Course of Training (eg 'Fourth Winter School')
The Annual Report for 1906 (the first year the Winter School was offered) noted:
"The subjects taught were of a varied character, and the training was especially designed to afford farmers the means of acquiring or perfecting their knowledge in many practical and theoretical phases of farm work and in the rearing and management of live stock."
The subjects taught included:
- Dairy
- Orchard
- Poultry
- Piggery
- Farm Book-keeping
- Surveying.
By the 1960's this had expanded to include such subjects as:
- Apiculture
- Dairy Farming
- Poultry Farming
- Tractor Maintenance
- Foremen in Food Plants (first offered in 1958/59)
- Youth Leadership
- Dairy Factory Apprentices
- Butter Makers Refresher School
- Junior Farmers
- Food Factory Apprenticeships.
