Hawkesbury Agricultural College Films
Hawkesbury Agricultural College (HAC) was established in 1891 on 3551 acres near the town of Richmond, New South Wales (Australia). Starting with an enrolment of 26 students, the College quickly grew to become a world class Agricultural College and Experimental Farm.
Initially students were housed at 'Toxana' in the town of Richmond and travelled to the farm each day. In 1895, students moved into newly built accommodation on site. Within ten years the College had established itself as a fully working farm producing export quality produce. Students were trained in all areas of farm management and modern agricultural techniques. In 1974, HAC became a College of Advanced Education and, in 1989, merged with other educational institutions to form the University of Western Sydney.
The University Archives Collection includes a number of films dating back to the 1920's depicting various aspects of the College. The collection included here not only depicts scenes at the Hawkesbury Agricultural College but also includes films that were used in teaching and in recreation. The films cover a wide range of topics but tend to heavily lean towards agricultural and horticultural disciplines.
The films in the following selection have been copied from original 16mm acetate reels and may have undergone cropping or minor editing but are otherwise true to the originals.
